A Brief History
The history of the Methodist Church in Salem dates back to 1816. The Salem Methodist congregations have erected five churches since they were founded. Since 1854, the church location has been near the corner of High and Market Streets. In 1891 the Weir Memorial Methodist Church was constructed and served as home to the Methodist for 71 years. In August of 1962, the congregation moved into our newly constructed colonial design building where we presently worship. We became The Salem United Methodist Church in 1968.
